Up/Rooting at Austrian Sculpture Park
April 16-17, 2026
The artist, Daniela Brasil, studied architecture, urbanistic, and social sculpture, and earned her doctorate at the Bauhaus University Weimar on artistic strategies in public space. Her work Up/Rooting: A Migrant Plants Garden draws on the history of the Flor de Maracujá, or passionflower, and its fellow tropical migrant friends. This project investigates processes of uprooting and re-rooting through a decolonial lens, tracing the entangled histories of human and plant migrations.
The EcoStories Team participated in the workshop by exchanging ecopedagogical methods and also by creating classroom materials guided by Daniela Brasil. A teacher herself, Daniela Brasil, provided methods and materials to the EcoStories Team that could be used in the classroom. Being in the garden and being guided through nature, the Team reflected on the possibilities of learning and teaching by looking at plants.
