Joke Dewilde is Professor of Multilingualism in Education and Head of Research at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research at the University of Oslo (Norway). She studies multilingualism in education and society, particularly related to migration and mobility, with the aim of contributing to increased social justice. A theme in her work is multilingual literacy and identity, where she has contributed knowledge on how newly arrived youth construct complex identities through creative, multilingual writing. Another theme is multilingual staff in schools and their pedagogical practices, opportunities, and challenges. A final theme is multicultural events in schools and communities as inclusive arenas, especially how participants experience such arenas. In the past year, she has also explored connections between multilingualism and sustainability with colleagues from the research group COSER – Challenges of Sustainability in Educational Research. Dewilde is the founder of the Mi Lenga programme for master’s students who write their thesis on issues related to multilingualism in education.
